Our History
The year was 1964. Individuals with disabilities did not have many options for employment or education in the US.
This was decades before the Americans with Disabiities Act (ADA - 1990), and years before the Rehabilitation Act (1973), and what is now called the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA - 1975).
While the Civil Rights Act was passed this same year, individuals with disabilities would not be added to the list of protected classes until 1988.
A group of parents were searching for better options for their children, so they partnered with the county and founded what you now know as Northern Valley Industries.
For almost six decades, we have been serving the residents and businesses of Marathon County. While we have changed and adapted with the times and technologies, our core mission has never waivered: to provide opportunities to anyone who wants to work.
